An auxiliary of the YMCA, the Y’s Folks started in 1991 and currently has 150+ members. There are two main reasons for the Y’s Folks. One reason is to be recognized as a group that is in harmony with the goals and ideals of the YMCA. Another is to provide social activities among old friends and opportunities to make new acquaintances while working together. The Y’s Folks’ annual membership of $12 is independent of YMCA membership or membership in the Fergus Falls City Senior Citizen program. Membership is open to everyone.
Y’s Folks accepts the mission of the YMCA, which is “To put Christian principles into practice through programs that build a healthy mind, body and spirit for all.” It recognizes the Y as not only a gym and a pool, but as a program responsible to community needs and a resource for people of all ages in the community.
Y’s Folks supports the Y through fundraising activities. Main fundraisers are salad luncheons, cookie sales, pancake suppers, and potluck dinners. Y’s Folks meet every Monday at 1:00 p.m. for cards, and on the 3rd Monday of each month for a potluck dinner.
Membership in Y’s Folks is open to people of all ages. Contact any Y’s Folks member about joining, or call 218-739-4489 ext. 12 or email y'sfolks@fergusfallsymca.org.
