Rules and Policies

Proper Behavior
All patrons are expected to exhibit good behavior at all times while in and around the YMCA. Common courtesy, respect for others, and respect for the facilities are expected. The facilities have been provided by members of this community and are maintained by your membership dollars. Protect your investment by using the facilities properly. Profanity is considered inappropriate behavior and disrespectful to others and shall not be tolerated. Any behavioral problems or concerns should be directed to the YMCA staff.

Bicycle Parking
To provide for your own security and the safety of others, bicycles must be locked in the bicycle rack at all times. The YMCA is not responsible for lost or stolen bicycles.

Dress Code
When using the YMCA, appropriate attire should be worn. No street clothes or street shoes are allowed in the exercise facility and no cutoffs or t-shirts in the pool. Exercise areas require warm-up suits or gym shorts with t-shirts and gym shoes. Only gym shoes which have not been worn outside are permitted in the gym, courts, aerobic room, free weight room, fitness area, or on the track. Shoes with “scuffing” black soles are not permitted.

Equipment Availability
Many equipment items such as basketballs, racquets, and eyeguards are available at the front desk free of charge.

Class Registration
Participants are considered registered when paid in full. All participants must be registered by the first day of class. The final day to register will be the Friday before the program starts. Anyone wishing to register after a program has started will be asked to register for the next session. Please don’t cause a cancellation. Register early!

Class Cancellation Policy
Minimum class size varies according to the type of class. The YMCA reserves the right to cancel a class if registration quotas are not met. Please do not cause a cancellation! Nothing hurts a good program quicker than everyone waiting until the last minute to register. If there aren’t enough registrants, the class has to be cancelled. Showing up on the day the class was supposed to start will not reinstate a cancelled class.

Refund Policy
Refunds can only be given if the Y cancels or reschedules a class. Credit cannot be given for individual classes missed. These classes must be staffed to accommodate the enrolled person whether or not he or she attends class. Credit slips will be issued for an extended verified illness and classes cancelled due to weather.

Food And Beverages
Food and drinks are restricted to the lobby area. This is to provide a clean and safe environment. Please help us keep our facility clean.

Holidays
The YMCA is closed on the following holidays: New Year’s Day, Easter, Memorial Day, 4th of July, Labor Day, Thanksgiving Day and Christmas Day. Other building closings will be posted.

Liability Statement
The Fergus Falls Area Family YMCA does not carry medical, accident, or loss of personal property insurance for any program participant because it would drastically increase the cost of our program fees. Please review the insurance policies that protect you and your family to be certain proper coverage is in place.

Lockers and Locks
Lockers are available for your use while you are in the Y. Bring your own lock for lockers in the boys’ and girls’ locker rooms. For those using men’s or women’s locker rooms, lockers are assigned and keys issued by the front desk. Keys must be returned upon departure. Locks that are left on lockers overnight will be removed. The YMCA is not responsible for the contents of lockers or for valuables.

Lost and Found
If you have lost something at the YMCA, ask at the front desk or check in the Lost & Found bin in the hallway off the east side of the lobby. Unclaimed items will be appropriately disposed of after approximately 30 days. The Y is not responsible for lost or stolen items.

Schedule, Fee and Program Changes
Although every effort will be made to keep members informed, the YMCA reserves the right to adjust or change any and all fees, instructors, schedules, and programs in accordance with decisions of the Fergus Falls Area Family YMCA Board of Directors.

School Vacation Days
Afternoon open swim and open gym times may be scheduled on days when no school is scheduled if it does not conflict with one of our regularly scheduled classes. Please check with the front desk for days and times. No youth, elementary, or middle school students are allowed in the building on weekdays until 1:30 p.m. unless accompanied by an adult.

Smoking Prohibited
Smoking is prohibited in the Fergus Falls Area Family YMCA. In the interest of good health, smokers are asked to refrain from smoking while on YMCA property.

Towel Rental
Towels are available for rent at the front desk for $1.00 each.

Weather-Related Cancellations Policy
If Fergus Falls schools are closed due to poor weather conditions, youth and adult morning and early afternoon swim lessons and programs will be cancelled, as well as any youth programs scheduled prior to 3 p.m. Dependent upon weather conditions, youth and adult afternoon and evening programs and swim lessons may be cancelled as well. Call the YMCA for verifications. If school is 2 hours late, all programs scheduled before 10:00 a.m. will be cancelled. All cancellations will be announced on local radio stations. In addition, the pool will be closed during lightning storms.
